How will you soothe your crying baby?
Taking care of your newborn is a great responsibility. Understanding what your baby needs and how to comfort him does not happen overnight. You learn these things with time and practice. Be patient with your child when they’re crying nonstop. Needless to say, it gets tough when your baby won’t stop crying. Don’t assume something is wrong or doubt your parenting skills. In time, you too will learn how to soothe your baby when they’re upset.
Crying is a basic form of communication for babies. It’s their way of grabbing your attention and expressing their needs. Even though it may seem very difficult to identify why your baby is crying and what they require, as you invest more time and learn to pay close attention, you’ll get better at understanding them.Normally babies cry because of: sleepiness, wet or dirty diaper, hunger, noise, food allergies, pain or illness, fear etc. Usually babies won’t stop crying until their needs are met. For example, notice if their changing mood is caused by the environment or with change in daylight, a soiled diaper etc. Your baby will give you hints of things which makes them cranky and things which comfort her. Take those hints to respond to her.
Changes in schedule can upset your babies just as crowds may overwhelm them. Try to not disrupt your baby’s regular schedule.
Gradually, you will be able to distinguish between different kinds of cries. You’ll see that they vary in terms of pitch, intensity and even the noise. You may pick up important cues from your child’s facial expressions & body language.
Be ready to implement everything you’ve learnt about human awareness and perception, when it comes to understanding why your baby might be crying! Sometimes recreating the womb environment soothes your little one. Wrapping them in a blanket gives them a sense of security. Hold them and as they they’re lying on their stomach or sides. As they’re fading into sleep, turn them over so they’re lying on their backs. Rhythmic motions like swinging, swaying, stroller rides may also soothe your child. Babies also find sucking on objects like ‘pacifiers’ soothing.
While trying to control your baby’s crying, remember a few things. Your baby feels things; has emotions. Starting from the very first moment of life, they start to experience feelings such as happiness, sadness and anger.Consider them as an individual to properly understand and respond to their expressions. Oftentimes, your baby will understand if you miss on the cues!
