When it comes to choosing products for your baby’s skincare, it’s very important to buy the items that are safe, and renowned in the market. A baby’s skin is very delicate and soft. Hence it is much more sensitive than that of adults. If you do not use a suitable product, your baby may be susceptible to various skin problems. So, before choosing the products for your baby’s skin, you have to keep few things in mind.

Consider the type of skin of your baby

As skin is one of the most delicate parts of your baby’s body, before choosing your products, you should check the type of your baby’s skin. Not every baby can cope up with all types of ingredients, but they all need to have their skin hydrated and moisturized. So you should select products accordingly. As the skin of a newborn is three to five times thinner than that of adults, newborn or baby products should use mild cleansers and should protect the natural balance of the baby’s skin while maintaining its outer, protective layer. Moreover, you should also check for any skin problem history on either side of your family before selecting products for your baby.

Make sure the product is 100% safe

Before selecting any product for your baby, you should carefully read the list of the ingredients mentioned in the label. You should also read the usage directions of the product, expiration dates, and safety markers before applying these products on your baby.Check if the product has safety certifications or not. Moreover, you should be cognizant of whether the product is allergy tested or not. All these are usually written at the back of any product’s label. You should check these things before buying the product. Some products don’t have a 100% safe tag in their labels. You should rethink before buying these types of products.

Understand the common toxins

One of the preconditions of choosing your product is to understand the materials that may be harmful for your baby. These materials may be used extensively in adult products, but may hurt the baby’s skin.
Lotion is a great product for locking the moisture of your baby’s skin. However, Paraben is a preservative often found in such cosmetic products. There are concerns that parabens could be absorbed more by infants than adults, making them more vulnerable to any potential harmful effects. So before buying the product make sure it is paraben-free. Sometimes triclosan is used in shampoo for scalp care. This is another element that may be harmful for your baby, so check that the shampoo you’re getting for your little one is free of triclosan.

Also before choosing the shampoo or baby wash make sure it is tear-free.

The pH of the products you get for your baby, should never be overlooked. A pH balanced product will not irritate your baby’s delicate skin, so you can choose to use these products on your baby.

Natural ingredients may be useful

Natural ingredients are a great source of nourishment for Babies’ skin. So, you can choose products that are enriched with the goodness of nature for them. Olive is an ingredient that works as a natural humectant. It also contains a high amount of antioxidants like Vitamin E. Almond oil has fatty acid which may prevent chapped skin. Neem is something which can help to reduce itching and prickly heat. You can consider these elements before selecting the product.

Test before you use

After buying the product do not use it immediately on your baby. First, you may use a very small amount of it in your baby’s ear or inside of the elbow and wait for 24 hours. If you don’t notice any side effects such as inflammation or itching you may consider using it on your baby’s skin.

Consult your pediatrician in case of any irritation

The best you can do is talk with your pediatrician in case your baby shows any signs of irritation towards a product. One really should not take any risks when it comes to their baby’s wellbeing. If you observe any kind of problem such as rash or allergy in your baby’s skin after using a certain type of product, discontinue usage immediately and consult your pediatrician
