HOW TO PREPARE BABY BOTTLE

Sterilize bottle

Boil water

Wash hands

Pour water into bottle

Add scoops of powder to bottle

Shake bottle

Cool water until lukewarm

Check temperature on the inside of wrist

Massaging Baby

A number of recent studies suggest that regular massage promotes your baby’s bone development. It also is a great way to bond with an infant. Always choose massage oil with natural oils like olive and Almond oil.

Applying Baby oil creates a protective barrier on Baby’s skin that locks moisture & keeps your baby’s skin soft. Try not to massage too vigorously after feeding, since it might cause the baby to spit up.

Bathing Baby

Babies should be bathed 3-4 times a week. Always choose a mild, no tear formula and pH balanced soap for your baby.

No tear formula lets your baby enjoy the bath while pH Balanced formula maintains natural softness of Baby’s skin. Rinse well to prevent irritation. An infant’s skin is very sensitive to try not to “scrub” too hard.

Keeping Baby skin moisturized

Always use warm water for giving baby a bath and bath should not be more than three to five minutes. Never use too hot water as baby’s skin loses moisture in hot water. Apply a lotion with natural moisturizers while baby is still wet, and then pat dry instead of rubbing. Always apply a lotion after washing baby’s skin for locking his skin’s natural moisture.

Common Baby Skin Problems

Your newborn baby may have some skin conditions that seem unusual to you. Most are fairly common and do not need to be treated. Some common ones are listed here for some guidance about what to expect

Heat Rash are bumps usually seen in the folds of baby’s skin and on parts of the body where clothing fits snugly, including the chest, stomach, neck, crotch and buttocks. In case of heat rash remove any excess clothing. Keep your baby comfortably cool by dressing him in loose-fitting, light, cotton clothing.

Birth Mark is flat and can be deep brown, slate gray, or blue-black in colour. Some birthmarks develop over time, and some  are present  at birth. They some times look like bruises and are often found on the lower back and buttocks.

Milia are tiny whiteheads on your baby’s face. They will disappear on their own.

Baby acne is red, pimply rash on the face. Generally, it disappears over time.

Diaper rash is often caused by irritation to the skin due to friction and too long contact with urine/stool. In general, most diaper rashes can be prevented by changing diapers when they are wet or soiled and allowing the diaper area to dry between changes. Using a barrier cream with zinc oxide can help.

When to consult a pediatrician for baby skin problems?

Most skin rashes in babies are not serious and require little to no treatment. There are some rashes which may require further evaluation. Any fever associated with a rash requires an evaluation by a physician. Rashes which involve blisters or other fluid-filled bumps(pustules, vesicles) may also need to be evaluated.
